Different Ways Of Being A Painting

   There are different ways of being a painting and many different reasons for making a painting, some good, some not so good. From my point of view, curiosity seems to be the best reason to make a painting. 

​   However, like the other many reasons, curiosity alone does not guarantee a successful painting. There are many things needed to make a successful painting and many claims for what constitutes a successful painting. This, it seems, is where it all starts to go haywire.

    Lets start with a few reasons for making a painting, followed by a few ways by which we might gauge whether or not it is a successful painting.

    Keeping in mind that some paintings just want to be a painting strictly for the sake of being a painting. While others, use painting as a way to make a point outside of that aesthetic.The later being more in line with illustration then with painting per se.
